PROJECT:

A) Name: Student’s Scholarship Fund

B) Description:

Lima Evangelical Seminary offers many programs of theological studies for the Christian community. Our main program is the Bachelor’s in Theology (Undergraduate), which has a total duration of 5 years. Currently we have around 120 students belonging to the undergraduate program or are taking classes from the program. Since many students come from different towns and states of Peru the seminary provides Housing.

Almost half of our undergraduate students have a certain percentage of scholarship for their studies and Housing because they don’t perceive the necessary income needed for their tuition and don’t get any financial support from their churches.

We have a scholarship commission made up of four people that evaluates each case and by doing so the scholarship fund is better administered. Last year (2008), a little over US$ 45,000 was given away and we expect to do the same during this new academic year (2009).

The seminary does not count with the necessary means but tries to obtain the funds through institutions and people that share our mission of equipping leaders for the service of the church and the community.

C) Beneficiaries: Theology students of the Lima Evangelical Seminary

D) Estimated expenses of the Project: US$ 45,000 annually

E) Project duration:
The scholarships should cover the students that have solicited some kind of support for the next academic year starting in March 2009 and ending in December 2009.

F) Justification:

The christian population in our country and Latin America is growing faster but the leadership is not growing at the same proportion. There are many churches with a lack of pastors and they don’t have well equipped leaders.

We would like to promote a formal theological education because according to the statistics, more than half of the pastors don’t have theological studies. Our desire is to prepare leaders that can take a sound doctrine to their churches.

Unfortunately, the majority of our students don’t with the necessary economic means to afford their preparation because of our country’s reality and their own personal difficulties.

This is why Lima Evangelical Seminary opened a scholarships’ program destined to students with scarce economic resources. This program is of great demand and that’s the reason why we have a commission that evaluates every application.

G) Objetive:

To be able to give the necessary economic support to the students with economical difficulties who wish to finish their studies.

STUDENTS

My name is Johnar Hoyos López, I am 21 years old and I was born in the state of Junín, I belong to the native community “Yanesha”.

First of all, I give thanks to God for being His son and for the great work He did on the cross giving His life away for me so I could be forgiven of all my sins. Since the day I met God I was able to understand the plans and special purposes He had for me.
Nowadays, I give thanks to God because He has made it possible for me to study at the Lima Evangelical Seminary.
My desire is to complete my studies and with God’s provision I would like to continue a Master’s and a Doctoral degree.
I desire to serve my God full-time in the ministry and to do projects for the benefit of the church and my community.

My objective is to grow in the knowledge of the Word of God to be able to edify more churches, win souls for Christ and establish a training center.

My name is José Gálvez and I was born in the state of Ayacucho. Because of terrorism and the internal violence I lost both of my parents; that’s why I wasn’t able to grow up and develop adequately. While I was young I lived a life without a compass with no hope in the future. But when I met the Lord my way of life changed.

God showed me what is real and made me realize the need to preach the Gospel in my church, my community and the town I was born. Hence, I know the Lord brought me to be prepared in this seminary.

My goal is to be a pastor with biblical principles, work with the people from the high Andes communities teaching and preaching the Word of God. Additionally, a great longing is to be able to teach in a biblical institute and to be able to prepare new leaders for the churches in the central parts of Peru that can preach the Gospel in the Quechua language. I give thanks to God for this opportunity to be prepared for the Christian ministry. There are also many students that need the economic and prayer support.
